| Photo Description | Fresh from the well-heated living rooms of Canadian homes, men of Exercise Muskox, now in training in Churchill, and who will fend for themselves for more than three months as they trek across 3100 miles of Canada's barren north and ice-clad Arctic wastes, learn to build from supplies at hand. Pictured above, Lt.-Col. Patrick Baird, Commanding Officer of the moving force which will jump off February 14 from their training base, show the men the trick of quickly fitting second tier blocks of a typical snow shelter. With only a large snow knife and a saw, the men must learn to construct an igloo in less than two hours. The finished snow house will accommodate four men and permit heating with an oil stove to a point where it will be possible for the men to enjoy an evenings bridge session sitting around in their shirt sleeves. |
